Statusly

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 July 2026 Effective date: 24 July 2026

1. Who we are

Statusly ("the App", "we", "us", "our") is an Android application developed and published by Ismail Idris, an individual developer based in Nigeria ("the Developer").

This policy explains what happens to information when you use Statusly. It applies only to the Statusly Android app and not to any other service.

2. The short version

We built Statusly to work almost entirely on your device.

The rest of this policy explains the detail.

3. Information we do NOT collect

To be explicit, Statusly does not collect, transmit, or store on any server:

4. Information processed only on your device

Statusly needs to read and organise certain information to work. All of the following is stored locally on your device only and is never sent to us or anyone else:

What Why Where it's stored
Status media files (photos/videos) that WhatsApp has already saved to your device To display statuses so you can view, save, share, or repost them Read in place from the folder you grant access to; temporary copies in the app's private cache when sharing
Media you choose to save So you can keep and re-share it Your device gallery and/or the App's private storage
An index of saved items (file reference, type, size, date) To power the "Saved" library Local database on your device
Status groupings and "already seen" markers To group statuses and detect new ones for alerts Local database on your device
Your settings (alerts on/off, theme, ad-free status, onboarding state) To remember your preferences Local storage on your device

Important: Statusly reads status files that WhatsApp itself has already downloaded to your device when you viewed those statuses. Statusly does not connect to WhatsApp's servers, does not log into your WhatsApp account, and cannot access statuses you have not already viewed in WhatsApp.

Deleting the App removes all of this local data. Media you deliberately saved to your device gallery remains, because it belongs to you — you can delete it yourself at any time.

5. Information collected by third-party services

Statusly includes a small number of third-party services. These providers may collect information directly from your device under their own privacy policies. We do not control their processing.

5.1 Google AdMob (advertising)

If you have not purchased "Remove Ads", we show advertisements supplied by Google AdMob. AdMob and its advertising partners may collect and process:

This is used to serve, measure, and improve ads, and — where permitted — to personalise ads. Google's policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy · Partner list: https://support.google.com/admob/answer/9012903

5.2 Google Play Billing (in-app purchase)

If you purchase "Remove Ads", the transaction is processed entirely by Google Play. We receive only a confirmation that an entitlement exists on your Google account. We never receive or store your payment card, bank details, or billing address.

5.3 Sentry (crash and error reporting)

To find and fix crashes, we use Sentry. When the App crashes or hits an error, Sentry may receive:

Crash reports are technical diagnostics. They do not include your status media, saved files, or message content. Sentry's policy: https://sentry.io/privacy/

5.4 Notifications

"New status alerts" are generated locally on your device. Statusly does not use a push notification server and does not send your device a push token or any identifier to us.

6. Permissions we request, and why

We ask for the minimum needed. You can refuse or revoke any of these in your device settings, though some features will stop working.

Permission / access Why we need it If you decline
Folder access to the WhatsApp status folder (granted by you through Android's system folder picker) The core function: to read the status photos and videos WhatsApp has already stored on your device so you can view and save them The App cannot show statuses and will not function
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) To alert you when a new status appears, if you turn alerts on You get no alerts; everything else works
Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) To restart the background alert check after your phone reboots Alerts stop working after a reboot
Internet / network state Only to load advertisements and send crash reports Ads fail to load; the App otherwise works offline
Advertising ID (AD_ID) Used by AdMob to serve and measure ads Ads become non-personalised
Photo & video access (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO) To save statuses into your device gallery and to display the items in your "Saved" library You cannot save statuses to your gallery

We do not request access to your contacts, your location, your camera, your microphone, your call logs, or your SMS messages.

7. How information is used

Information is used only to:

We do not use your information for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

8. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data. Information is shared only in these limited situations:

9. Advertising and your choices

You have real control over advertising:

10. Data retention and deletion

Because Statusly has no accounts and no server, there is no account for us to delete and no server-side copy of your data to erase. To remove everything associated with the App, uninstall it and, if you wish, delete any media you saved.

11. Children's privacy

Statusly is intended for users aged 13 and over, and our Google Play target audience is declared accordingly. The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has used the App in a way that provided personal data to our advertising or crash-reporting providers, please contact us and we will help you exercise your rights with those providers.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, note that the age of digital consent varies by country (13 to 16). Where you are below that age, a parent or guardian should review this policy and consent on your behalf.

12. Your rights

12.1 Nigeria (NDPA)

If you are in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 gives you rights over personal data relating to you, including rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

12.2 European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, to object to processing (including to direct marketing and to profiling for advertising), and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also complain to your national supervisory authority.

Legal bases we rely on:

Purpose Legal basis
Running the App's core features on your device Performance of a contract (providing the App you requested)
Personalised advertising Your consent, collected via a Google-certified consent platform
Non-personalised advertising Legitimate interests (funding a free app), balanced against your rights
Crash and error reporting Legitimate interests (keeping the App secure and stable)

12.3 California (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident you may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, request deletion or correction, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information. Sharing of advertising identifiers for cross-context behavioural advertising may qualify as "sharing" under the CPRA — you can opt out using the controls in Section 9. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

12.4 How to exercise your rights

Email us at the address in Section 1. We will respond within the time required by applicable law (generally 30 days). We may need to ask you for information to verify your request. Because we hold virtually no data that identifies you, we may direct you to Google or Sentry for data held by them, and we will help you do so.

13. International data transfers

We do not transfer your data ourselves, because we do not collect it on a server. Our third-party providers (Google, Sentry) operate globally and may process data outside your country, including in the United States. They rely on legal transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. See their privacy policies for detail.

14. Security

Because your data stays on your device, the main protection is your device's own security — your screen lock, encryption, and OS updates. In addition:

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

15. Third-party apps and links

When you share or repost a status, the receiving app (WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, and so on) handles that content under its own terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for other apps or for any website linked from the App. Please review their policies.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App changes or the law changes. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, show a notice in the App before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Statusly after an update means you accept the revised policy. Previous versions are available on request.

17. Contact

Questions, requests, or complaints about privacy:

If you are in Nigeria and are unsatisfied with our response, you may contact the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. If you are in the EEA or UK, you may contact your local data protection authority.

18. Disclaimer of affiliation

Statusly is an independent application. It is not affiliated with, authorised by, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected to WhatsApp LLC, Meta Platforms, Inc., or any of their subsidiaries or affiliates. "WhatsApp" is a registered trademark of WhatsApp LLC. Any reference to WhatsApp is purely descriptive, to explain what the App does.
